Introducing Cloud Functions for Firebase

Firebase announced the beta launch of Cloud Functions for Firebase, a serverless capability that lets developers deploy small JavaScript functions to Google Cloud infrastructure in response to Firebase and HTTP events, reducing the need to operate their own servers. Built on Google Cloud Functions and running in a managed Node.js environment, the service integrates with Google Analytics, Firebase Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Storage, and HTTP endpoints to support tasks such as sending notifications, welcoming or cleaning up user accounts, moderating content, processing uploads, connecting webhooks, and handling payments. Developers can use the Firebase SDK, TypeScript support, and Firebase CLI to define event triggers and deploy functions with a single command. Cloud Functions is available across Firebase pricing plans, including a free tier, while Blaze plan users pay based on usage with a monthly free allocation.
