Improving your startup times and error handling using the Remote Config V2 SDK
Blog post from Firebase
Firebase Remote Config v2 introduces non-blocking initialization and fetching to reduce app startup delays, allowing apps to load configuration values asynchronously without interrupting core user flows, particularly on slow or limited networks. A new fetch-and-activate method combines two common operations, while configurable fetch timeouts let developers limit how long an app waits for updated values before falling back to cached or default settings. The release also adds a minimum fetch interval setting, replacing older caching terminology while retaining a default 12-hour refresh period that developers can adjust carefully to avoid rate limits. On Android, communication with the Remote Config backend now uses direct REST calls to provide clearer error responses when fetches fail. Developers can upgrade by updating dependencies, and both the Android and iOS Remote Config SDKs are now open source.
