Firebase App Hosting: Environments & deployment settings

Firebase App Hosting has introduced environment-specific configuration files, allowing teams to use files such as apphosting.production.yaml and apphosting.staging.yaml to apply distinct environment variables and runtime settings while retaining shared fallback values in apphosting.yaml. Each backend can now be assigned an environment name, helping separate sensitive production data and optimize settings such as minimum instances for performance or cost. A new Deployment settings tab also lets users disable automatic GitHub-triggered rollouts, manually deploy when needed, and modify the backend’s live branch and build root directory. Additional updates include published REST API reference documentation, fixes for domain provisioning, build logs, and Yarn projects, and an increased request timeout from one to five minutes. Firebase is also working to improve Authentication support, particularly for cookie-based workflows, while updating guidance for current service-worker-based session-management workarounds.
