Firebase App Hosting: Emulators and a look forward to 2025

Firebase App Hosting, introduced in public preview at Google I/O, is a serverless web hosting service that automates GitHub-based Angular and Next.js deployments through Cloud Build, Cloud Run, and Cloud CDN. Over its first seven months, feedback-driven additions have included wildcard custom domains, environment-specific configurations, Asian and European regions, expanded Firebase console controls, Nx monorepo and subdirectory support, manual rollouts, and cookie handling. Newly announced capabilities include a local emulator that uses apphosting.yaml settings and can download Cloud Secret Manager secrets for more consistent development environments, while an improved Firebase console interface for diagnosing build failures is expected in early January. The update also highlights Angular v19 support, including its server-side rendering capabilities, and notes that further features are planned as App Hosting moves toward general availability in 2025.
