Build Responsive, AI-powered Apps with Cloud Functions for Firebase

Cloud Functions for Firebase has introduced streaming responses for callable functions and an onCallGenkit trigger to support more responsive, AI-powered applications. Streaming allows Node.js callable functions to send incremental data chunks to web clients using the Firebase JavaScript SDK, improving experiences for token-by-token generative AI output, large datasets, and live data feeds while retaining a full-response fallback for clients without streaming support. The new onCallGenkit trigger lets developers deploy Firebase Genkit generative AI flows as secure, scalable callable APIs, with built-in streaming through sendChunk, familiar Firebase deployment, App Check protection, Secret Manager integration, and second-generation concurrency. These capabilities are currently available for the second-generation Node.js runtime, while Python support and streaming support in Swift, Kotlin, and Dart client SDKs remain in development.
