Announcing Dart support in Cloud Functions for Firebase

Firebase has announced experimental Dart support for Cloud Functions for Firebase, allowing Flutter developers to use Dart across both frontend and backend code and potentially share data models, validation rules, and tooling. Dart’s ahead-of-time compilation produces native binaries intended to reduce serverless cold starts and execution costs, while its asynchronous I/O model is suited to functions waiting on databases, APIs, and network activity. Developers can deploy Dart functions through the Firebase CLI and test them locally with the Firebase Emulator Suite, including automatic function reloading during development. An experimental Dart Firebase Admin SDK is also available, automatically initialized in Cloud Functions and usable in other server environments such as Cloud Run or Compute Engine. The initial release, enabled through a Firebase CLI experimental flag, supports HTTPS and callable functions, with Firebase inviting developers to test the feature and provide feedback.
