Fraudsters increasingly exploit residential proxies to bypass traditional proxy detection methods, creating challenges for enterprises in fraud prevention. Fingerprint's new beta feature, integrated into their IP Blocklist Smart Signal, now detects residential proxies, marking them with "proxy:true" to aid in identifying fraudulent activities. Residential proxies, which reroute traffic through legitimate household devices, are difficult to detect and can be used for malicious purposes such as bypassing bot detection, creating fake accounts, and committing payment fraud. However, they are not inherently fraudulent, as some users unknowingly become proxy nodes by installing free VPNs. To effectively identify fraud, the detection of residential proxies should be combined with other indicators like operating system mismatches and virtual machine detection. Fingerprint aims to enhance fraud detection through the development of new heuristics and behavioral red flags, offering this feature to enterprise customers, with plans to expand availability to Pro Plus plans.
