5 takeaways from the State of AI Traffic in Financial Services report
Blog post from Fingerprint
A survey of 300 financial-services leaders across banking, fintech, wealth management, and investment banking found that AI-driven automated traffic is rising rapidly, with 95% reporting an increase over the previous year. While institutions are broadly confident they can distinguish legitimate AI assistants from malicious bots, many rely on easily spoofed request headers rather than stronger real-time IP or DNS verification, creating opportunities for attackers to impersonate trusted AI services. Seventy-nine percent of respondents have already identified bots or scrapers that bypassed defenses by posing as legitimate AI assistants or search crawlers, exposing organizations to risks such as account takeover, data scraping, customer-data leakage, API reverse engineering, and fraud. Browserless AI requests also challenge traditional browser-based fraud tools, with 53% of leaders reporting that their management requires substantial manual oversight and custom rules, while only 26% report full visibility into automated traffic that evades client-side JavaScript detection.
