New in Felt: Geocoding, Geomatching, and Choropleths
Blog post from Felt
Felt has expanded its data uploading capabilities to support various types of data beyond traditional vector file formats, enhancing the experience for users who create advanced, data-driven maps. Users can now upload tabular data with geographic entities such as zip codes, place names, or street addresses, which are automatically geocoded into vector polygons or points. This feature eliminates the need for time-consuming data joins and geocoding APIs, allowing for the seamless transformation of spreadsheet-based datasets into visual maps. Felt's new geomatching capabilities recognize and convert data with non-lat/lon information, such as addresses or administrative boundaries, into maps using popular location codes like ZIP, FIPS, and ISO-3166. This innovation facilitates the creation of maps from free-form input data by automatically matching them to geographic entities, making the process of styling and sharing complex data more efficient and accessible.
