Mapping climate change at the Washington Post

At the Washington Post, the individual's role involves editing and managing coverage related to mapping, natural disasters, and weather. Initially joining as a graphics reporter in 2017, the job entailed creating maps for news topics like hurricanes and earthquakes. The person's career path towards cartography began at the University of Oregon, where initial interests in journalism shifted after a captivating climatology class, leading to a major in geography and Spanish. While initially focused on atmospheric sciences, exposure to GIS and cartographic design during senior year sparked a passion for mapping, culminating in a Master's degree in cartography and GIS. Experience gained at the Infographics Lab at UO and work at National Geographic, where they tackled stories on environmental topics, solidified their skills and prepared them for their current role at the Post.
