How the Ethereum Foundation dAI team secures open-weight models using Featherless and Averta
Blog post from Featherless
Featherless and Averta have integrated Featherless’s serverless access to a large library of open-weight AI models with Averta’s runtime security, policy enforcement, monitoring, and auditability capabilities through a live webhook. The collaboration is intended to address risks associated with production AI systems, including prompt injection, unauthorized tool use, sensitive-data leakage, and policy bypasses, particularly when models power agents connected to external tools and workflows. Featherless provides model loading, GPU orchestration, and serverless pricing, while Averta applies controls to prompts, tool calls, tool results, and outputs across the AI execution path. The Ethereum Foundation’s dAI team is using the combined services for research, serving as an example of deployment in a high-trust setting. Averta reports that its guardrail classification engine achieves 98.8% precision with under 40ms p99 latency and cites testing in which its controls substantially reduced attack success rates across several categories. Its wider platform also includes MCP Gateway for agent and tool governance and Averta RED for automated and expert-led AI security testing.
