I recently had the opportunity to exhibit and speak at QConSF, a foundational technology conference that covered topics such as MySQL and NPM, and featured a variety of database vendors. My talk on consistency without clocks compared Google Spanner with Fauna's approach, highlighting the benefits of deterministic transactions for real-world deployments. The future of serverless is an exciting topic, with advancements in function-as-a-service runtimes and business models emerging. Serverless platforms like Lambda are simplifying workloads, while frameworks and applications are taking advantage of edge functionality like Cloudflare Workers. Small functions, loosely joined, are becoming a key aspect of serverless architecture, offering benefits such as faster development, easier deployment, and improved security. The industry is also moving towards an interplanetary NPM, where WebAssembly modules are used to manipulate web data, with service providers competing on price and performance. Fauna is well-positioned to address the needs of globally distributed systems and serverless databases, offering globally replicated ACID transactions.
