Summary

FalkorDB 6.0 introduces a Rust-based core engine that retains compatibility with existing Cypher queries, APIs, integrations, and data files while reportedly executing 39% fewer CPU instructions than the C engine across more than 300 benchmark queries. Developed over 17 months and 80,000 lines of Rust, the rewrite preserves FalkorDB’s sparse-matrix graph model while adding columnar batch execution and multi-version concurrency control to improve throughput and allow nonblocking reads. The release also adds effects v3, a replication format in which replicas receive and verify IDs, deletion context, counts, and checksums rather than inferring state, supporting safer future live transitions between the C and Rust engines. Benchmark-driven optimizations target expression evaluation, aggregation, traversal planning, cartesian products, graph writes, deletes, and bulk ingestion, with some workloads showing substantial reductions in instructions, memory use, or execution time. FalkorDB 6.0 resolves 226 issues from the prior engine, including query-correctness defects, 43 stability problems, and six memory-safety flaws, although supported upgrades from version 4.x are deferred until version 6.2; the release is available on Docker Hub and will be introduced gradually to FalkorDB Cloud.
