Localization testing with coding agents
Blog post from Factory
Localization testing must extend beyond successfully compiling translation files to verify that supported user journeys work across languages, scripts, regional formats, and interface directions. Effective coverage identifies supported locales and flows, includes long-text and right-to-left cases, uses deterministic synthetic data with controlled time, currency, and measurement settings, and validates translation catalogs for missing keys, placeholder errors, and syntax issues. Coding agents can automate browser-based tests that change locale settings, confirm persistent preferences, inspect formatting and navigation, capture visual evidence of clipping or overlap, and test non-ASCII input behavior such as composition, cursor movement, and paste. Failures should be categorized by source content, locale formatting, layout, or directional behavior, then retested in the affected, source, and additional supported locales at relevant viewport sizes. Combining functional assertions, visual regression checks, and documented testing assumptions helps ensure localization quality beyond a successful catalog build.
