Introducing @expo/agent-cli: the CLI designed for agents
Blog post from Expo
Expo has introduced the experimental @expo/agent-cli to help coding agents reliably develop Expo applications by providing structured JSON output, meaningful exit codes, and clear next-command guidance. Designed to reduce trial-and-error around native dependencies, Expo Go compatibility, development builds, and rebuild requirements, the CLI includes commands such as status to assess project readiness, dev to prepare and launch an appropriate development environment, and smoke to verify that an app loads without runtime errors. It also offers runtime controls for navigating and inspecting running apps, isolates simulators or emulators for agents working in separate Git worktrees, and supports both local and EAS cloud workflows through a consistent command structure while requiring explicit opt-in for credit-consuming cloud services. With Expo SDK 58, the tool also supports co-located skills, allowing installed packages to provide agent guidance alongside their APIs and enabling automatic synchronization of relevant skills. Built on Expo CLI, EAS CLI, and expo-doctor, the project remains under active development, with setup tools intended to configure agents, sync documentation and skills, and encourage use of the new CLI instead of separate Expo and EAS commands.
