Introducing Expo Atlas
Blog post from Expo
Expo has introduced Expo Atlas, a tool designed to enhance app development by providing greater visibility into React Native development processes. Initially developed as an internal tool, Expo Atlas offers features like an overview of bundles, source and output code for modules, and platform-specific dependency graphs. It also includes a Metro fast resolver, which has improved build speeds, and an optimized Babel configuration that leverages Hermes-supported language features, resulting in reduced JavaScript bundle sizes. Early testers experienced significant performance improvements, such as a 38% reduction in JS bundle size. Expo Atlas is integrated with Expo SDK 51 and can be activated by setting a specific environment variable. It supports both development and export processes, offering comprehensive platform information and exporting detailed bundle data in a .jsonl file format. The tool is now available to the broader developer community, who are encouraged to explore its capabilities.
