How to share a live mobile preview without TestFlight — Articles
Blog post from Expo
Mobile app previews can be shared without TestFlight by choosing a method suited to the review: hosted browser simulators for interface feedback, iOS ad hoc builds for registered devices, and Android APKs for direct installation. TestFlight remains more appropriate for broad beta programs and store-release testing, but internal builds can be distributed faster and updated over the air when changes affect only JavaScript and assets; native-code changes require a new compatible build. iOS ad hoc distribution requires device UDIDs to be registered before signing, is limited to 100 devices annually, and may involve activation delays, while Android APKs can be installed outside Google Play with user permission. Effective handoffs include clear review instructions, version identifiers, validated reviewer access, dedicated test accounts and isolated backend data, and attention to logs, recordings, and link security. Troubleshooting should distinguish delivery, installation, update, authentication, simulator, and app-function failures, while Expo users can use EAS Build for internal APK, ad hoc, enterprise, or simulator builds and EAS Update for compatible over-the-air previews; however, hosted simulators and Expo tools have access and physical-device limitations that should be tested before relying on them.
