Agentic mobile CI/CD with EAS Workflows and Expo Simulators
Blog post from Expo
Expo’s agentic mobile CI/CD approach combines EAS Workflows, AI agents, cloud simulators, and human approval to automate mobile app delivery while retaining human control over release decisions. Teams define YAML workflows in `.eas/workflows` to trigger builds, tests, updates, store submissions, and pull-request reporting from events such as pushes, pull requests, schedules, API calls, and App Store Connect activity. Agents can create, validate, repair, run, and inspect workflow files through Expo Skills and the Expo MCP Server, then investigate failed jobs and logs. They can also use Expo Simulators to launch iOS Simulator builds in the cloud, interact with apps, capture screenshots or recordings, and attach evidence to pull requests, while Maestro supports end-to-end testing. Workflows can avoid unnecessary native rebuilds by comparing fingerprints, publish over-the-air JavaScript updates when native code is unchanged, and require explicit approval before submitting new native builds to TestFlight or app stores. Results from EAS runs, TestFlight feedback and crashes, App Store Connect events, and production monitoring through EAS Observe can feed back into an agent-driven debugging loop, but people remain responsible for reviewing pipeline changes, merging pull requests, and approving releases.
