Esper Deep Cuts: AI on the Edge IRL
Blog post from Esper
Generative AI is increasingly popular in the tech world, and Esper has been providing edge inference solutions to customers for years, facilitating the transition of AI applications from concept to proof-of-concept (PoC) through its Pando Solutions Accelerator. One prominent example involves a customer specializing in age verification for small retailers, who utilized Esper's technology to develop a self-service kiosk for age-restricted items, an innovation currently undergoing patenting. This solution, built in less than two months to meet a tradeshow deadline, showcased AI model management and inference at the edge, overcoming technical challenges like the lack of internet connectivity and limited hardware capabilities by employing a Linux-based Intel x86 device with an Nvidia GPU for edge inference. Esper's collaboration with the customer involved developing an Android app for demonstration and implementing a discovery protocol to connect PoS devices with the AI gateway, ultimately leading to a successful demonstration at the NACS trade show, generating significant interest and potential new business opportunities.
