Summary

ElevenLabs signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Karnataka during its inaugural India Summit in Bengaluru to explore using voice AI in public services. Working with the state’s IT department, the company plans to pilot applications for grievance redressal, public helplines, and entitlement schemes, with an aim to make information accessible in Kannada and India’s 13 other official languages supported on its platform. The agreement also includes a voice AI safety framework addressing deepfake detection, watermarking, consent, voice-cloning restrictions, and fraud prevention, alongside training for relevant local officials. Through its One Million Voices program, ElevenLabs will offer eligible Karnataka residents who have lost speech due to cancer, ALS, or neurological conditions free lifetime access to AI recreations of their own voices. The initiative builds on ElevenLabs’ other government collaborations, including work with institutions in the United Kingdom, Greece, and Brazil.
