Elastic Cloud on Azure gets a speed boost: Compute-optimized instances on Azure Cobalt ARM
Blog post from Elastic
Elastic Cloud on Azure has introduced a CPU-optimized ARM hardware profile using Microsoft’s Cobalt-based Dpldsv6 virtual machines with direct-attached NVMe storage. Elastic reports that the profile delivers up to 44% better price-performance than Fsv2 instances in its testing, particularly for CPU-intensive Elasticsearch operations such as indexing, aggregations, and keyword, vector, semantic, and hybrid search. The offering is intended primarily for compute-bound deployments, including dense vector search, heavily reranked hybrid search, frequent large-range aggregations, and environments with sustained high CPU utilization, while storage- and memory-heavy workloads may also benefit from updated I/O and memory characteristics. Users can select the profile for new deployments or migrate existing deployments through the Elastic Cloud Console, with migrations performed one node at a time to maintain availability. Initially, the profile is available in Azure regions including Australia East, West Europe, West US 2, Central US, Canada Central, South Central US, and France Central, with further regional expansion planned.
