Dragonfly is not Redis`: an open letter to the community, published on April 30, 2025, by the developers of Dragonfly, a new in-memory data store project. The authors responded to Redis's criticism, dismissing their claims and highlighting the benefits of Dragonfly over Redis, including better performance, lower cost, and scalability in modern cloud environments. Despite this, Redis's legal team threatened the Dragonfly community with legal action, accusing them of misleading users into thinking Dragonfly is Redis. However, the authors argue that Dragonfly delivers far more value for much less money, with a data store capable of reaching 6.5 million RPS at a fraction of the cost of Redis Cloud. The project's growth is exponential due to its superior performance and value proposition, making it clear that Dragonfly is not Redis.
