The Edge Sync Plugin for the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), developed by Ditto, is set to launch on May 16, 2025, marking its transition from beta to full release. This plugin enhances connectivity in challenging environments by allowing ATAK-equipped devices to maintain communication through various network transports, such as Bluetooth Low Energy and SATCOM, even when traditional networks are unavailable. Built on Ditto's offline-first mobile database, the plugin ensures data consistency and preservation by caching offline data and forwarding it when networks become available. It has already proven effective in improving situational awareness and communication for military and first responders in environments with degraded connectivity, as demonstrated at a Kansas State Fair test. The plugin's capabilities include long-distance multi-hop sync and platform-agnostic, fully encrypted communication, maintaining a consistent Common Operating Picture (CoP) without a server, thereby enhancing the coordination and safety of tactical teams operating in remote or isolated areas.
