Ditto has released a new Edge Sync plugin for the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), designed to enhance data synchronization and communication in environments with unreliable connectivity. This plugin enables secure, offline data synchronization using various transports such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi Aware, MANET, and SATCOM, thereby maintaining a consistent Common Operating Picture (CoP) and improving situational awareness and coordination for tactical teams. Unlike traditional ATAK setups that require a constant server connection, Ditto's plugin facilitates peer-to-peer mesh networking, allowing devices to automatically sync data upon connection with nearby peers and extending communication range through multihop sync technology. The plugin's platform-agnostic design supports various devices and ensures encrypted communication, providing reliable data access and synchronization without relying on a central server. This innovation aims to enhance operational efficiency in high-stakes environments by ensuring continuous communication and data flow, even in degraded connectivity scenarios.
