Ditto version 1.0.4 for Android significantly enhances the speed of document and file synchronization, achieving up to a 10× performance improvement by integrating the BLE L2CAP implementation in its networking stack. This update follows the release of Ditto 1.0.3 for iOS, which had already increased synchronization speed over BLE by more than 5×. The new version allows data transfer rates of 17 kilobytes per second, comparable to a 128 kbps MP3 file, and is fully compatible with devices running since version 1.0.0. Although Ditto does not rely solely on Bluetooth LE for data transmission, it employs multiple transports simultaneously for optimal performance. The update particularly benefits Android devices, which previously had slower connections due to the use of the GATT Bluetooth LE mode, allowing for the transmission of larger payloads over greater distances. Users are encouraged to have all devices on version 1.0.4 to experience these improvements, especially if they disable WiFi to test BLE performance specifically.
