Hacktoberfest 2025 marked its 12th edition with participants worldwide contributing to open source projects, fostering collaboration and innovation within the tech community. The event, attended by 56,768 people from 176 countries, saw an increase in the required pull requests from 4 to 6 to encourage deeper engagement, resulting in 87,929 contributions across 23,592 repositories. Highlights included hackathons in seven cities focusing on AI and open source, online events for beginners, and the introduction of a "Super Contributor" badge for those completing 6 PRs. The DigitalOcean Discord community grew to over 21,000 members, providing a platform for developers to connect and share their enthusiasm for open source. Sponsored by MLH, Auth0, and AMD, with community partners like GitHub and GitLab, the event celebrated its diverse contributors, including long-time participants, through digital badges and special recognitions.
