DigitalOcean has introduced several new product updates aimed at reducing cloud scaling costs and enhancing performance. Starting January 1, 2026, per-second billing for Droplets will be implemented, allowing users to pay only for the precise compute time used, with a minimum charge of 60 seconds. This change is expected to drastically cut costs for ephemeral workloads like CI/CD pipelines and automated testing. Additionally, new dedicated Droplet plans are now available, offering a seamless upgrade path to more powerful resources without requiring complex migrations. The Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP) feature has been made generally available, enabling the transfer of IPv4 prefixes to maintain IP reputation and business continuity during migrations. Furthermore, the VPC NAT gateway is available for public preview, providing a managed solution for centralized egress with static IPs, offering enhanced security and simplified management. These updates are part of DigitalOcean’s broader strategy to provide a more flexible and cost-effective infrastructure while addressing common challenges faced by businesses in scaling their operations.
