WebAssembly (Wasm) can support identity verification by running computationally intensive tasks such as document analysis, biometric processing, and cryptographic operations in browsers or edge devices rather than relying entirely on remote servers. Its sandboxed execution model is presented as a way to limit malicious code access, while local processing can reduce latency, lower server workloads, improve scalability, and keep sensitive KYC and AML data closer to users, including in some offline scenarios. Organizations can compile identity-verification logic from languages such as C++, Rust, or C into Wasm modules and load them within web or edge applications using tools such as Emscripten and wasm-pack. Combining Wasm with edge computing may further reduce data transmission and enable faster verification for uses including payments and access control.
