Swiyu is the planned federal wallet app and trust infrastructure for Switzerland’s state-issued electronic identity, the Swiss E-ID, created under the 2024 E-ID Act and approved by voters in September 2025 after an earlier privately issued model was rejected. The planned December 2026 production launch was postponed without a new date, although the trust infrastructure is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, while businesses can currently test integrations through the separate Sandbox Wallet and Beta-ID. Users will be able to store a device-bound, encrypted credential and share only requested attributes by scanning a verifier’s QR code and approving or declining the request; the system supports selective disclosure and anonymous age verification, while access to the AHV social-security number is restricted and addresses are not included. Businesses accepting the E-ID must register their requested data and purposes publicly, but fees, onboarding timing, and production terms remain unpublished. The E-ID is not notified under the EU eIDAS framework, has no established cited assurance level, and its use for Swiss anti-money-laundering onboarding depends on FINMA rules that remain under revision. The text advises organizations to retain physical-ID and document-based NFC, liveness, and face-matching alternatives, particularly for users without eligible Swiss documents or where regulatory requirements such as proof of address still apply.
