Web physics attacks exploit browser interaction patterns such as mouse movements and task timing rather than conventional code or network vulnerabilities, making them difficult for traditional defenses to identify. The proposed Proof-of-Space and Computation (POSC) approach requires users to dedicate storage space and complete computational work, raising the resource costs of automated attacks while allowing challenge difficulty to be adjusted according to risk. POSC could supplement identity verification by making credential abuse, CAPTCHA bypasses, and fraudulent account creation more expensive, and it may also protect sensitive APIs by gating rate-limited or privileged access behind verification challenges. Didit describes plans to integrate POSC into its identity platform through configurable, API-based implementation alongside methods such as document verification and liveness detection.
