Summary

OpenID for Verifiable Presentations (OpenID4VP) 1.0, finalized in July 2025, enables websites and apps to request selected digital credentials from a user’s wallet and receive cryptographically signed presentations in a VP Token without an authorization-code exchange. For EUDI Wallet remote presentations, verifiers send signed requests containing a DCQL query and a fresh nonce, then must independently validate issuer trust, selective-disclosure hashes, holder key binding, audience and nonce values, and credential revocation status for SD-JWT VC or mdoc formats. EU rules further require eligible EUDI relying parties to use an x509_hash client identifier with an RP access certificate, include a registration certificate, and request only registered attributes, while regulated private parties are expected to accept the wallet from December 2027. The material recommends direct_post or encrypted response modes for server flows and the Digital Credentials API for more phishing-resistant browser-mediated flows, particularly across devices, while cautioning against reused nonces, unchecked audiences, reliance on wallet filtering alone, and skipped revocation checks. It also points developers to EUDI conformance tools, reference documentation, and Moldova’s demo verifier, while promoting Didit’s current national eID and document-verification services as an interim option.
