OpenID Connect (OIDC) is an identity layer built on OAuth 2.0 that enables applications to authenticate users and obtain standardized profile information, whereas OAuth 2.0 primarily authorizes access to resources. OIDC uses JWT-based ID Tokens containing claims such as a user’s unique identifier, name, email, issuer, audience, and expiration time, allowing applications to verify identity while limiting shared data to requested information. For modern web and native applications, the Authorization Code Flow with PKCE is recommended because it helps prevent authorization-code interception and requires validation of returned tokens. The guide also presents Didit as a platform offering prebuilt identity-provider connectors, configurable claims, token validation, PKCE support, and workflow tools intended to simplify secure, scalable OIDC integration.
