Summary

MitID Erhverv is Denmark’s business version of the national MitID electronic identity system, introduced between October 2022 and June 2023 to replace NemID medarbejdersignatur and used by employees, associations, companies, and public authorities to authenticate when acting online for an organisation. As of September 2026, it reportedly covers about 1.3 million active business identities across 357,261 connected organisations, while sole authorised signatories may instead use personal MitID for business purposes. The material stresses that a MitID or MitID Erhverv sign-in establishes the identity of an individual but does not independently prove authority to bind a company; that authority must be verified through company registers and, where necessary, constitutive documents. For KYB and AML compliance, it recommends obtaining company and representative information from official registers, matching authenticated individuals to listed representatives, separately verifying beneficial owners and representation powers, and conducting sanctions and politically exposed person screening. Denmark’s AML framework recognises electronic identification as a reliable verification source, and the EU AML Regulation, applicable from 10 July 2027, permits substantial- or high-assurance eID for verifying customers and people acting on their behalf. Businesses cannot connect directly to MitID Erhverv and must use an approved broker, while applicants without MitID may be verified through document checks involving chip reading, liveness detection, and facial matching.
