MiCA establishes a harmonized EU regulatory framework for crypto-assets, including a travel rule under Article 58 that requires Virtual Asset Service Providers to collect, verify, and transmit originator and beneficiary information for crypto transfers exceeding €1,000. The requirements affect a broad group of providers, including exchanges, brokers, custodians, wallet providers, and businesses offering crypto transfer-related services, and are intended to support anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing efforts. Compliance involves customer due diligence and KYC, ongoing transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, secure inter-VASP data exchange, and retaining transaction records for at least five years, with non-compliance potentially resulting in fines and reputational harm. Implementation is phased from December 30, 2024 for authorized Crypto-Asset Service Providers, with later deadlines in 2025 and 2026 for other firms. Didit promotes its identity verification, AML screening, transaction monitoring, workflow automation, and Travel Rule data-sharing tools as a platform for helping VASPs meet these obligations.
