Poland’s identity-verification landscape combines the widely used mObywatel mobile app and mDowód with Profil Zaufany, chip-enabled e-dowód cards, and bank logins through the public login.gov.pl node. Although more than 11 million mDowód documents had been issued by the end of 2025, its legally defined role is primarily for face-to-face identity checks using a QR-code verification process, and no published remote API for private-sector online onboarding was identified as of October 2026. Profil Zaufany and e-dowód are Poland’s EU-notified eIDAS credentials at Substantial and High assurance levels, while online private-sector verification commonly relies on NFC chip reading of identity documents combined with liveness and facial matching. Polish anti-money-laundering rules allow electronic identification and require obliged entities to use mObywatel under its legal conditions, while forthcoming EU AML and EUDI Wallet rules will strengthen the role of high-assurance eIDs. Poland is developing an EUDI Wallet linked to mObywatel, with a business sandbox open but no confirmed launch date, and certain regulated private organizations are expected to accept the wallet from December 2027.
