API-first MVC development places the API contract at the center of application design, defining endpoints, data structures, request and response formats, and standards before building backend logic or user interfaces. By using RESTful conventions, JSON, API versioning, and machine-readable specifications such as OpenAPI, teams can generate documentation, validate requests and responses, and create client SDKs automatically. This approach decouples frontend and backend work, supports reuse across web, mobile, and third-party clients, and improves scalability, testing, maintainability, and developer experience. In this model, controllers map API endpoints to models containing business logic and data access, while views consume and render API-provided data. The guide also presents Didit as an API-first identity platform offering modules for ID verification, liveness detection, and AML screening through REST APIs, SDKs, documentation, analytics, and compliance-oriented infrastructure.
