Descope: the Only Visionary in 2026 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for CIAM
Blog post from Descope
Descope reports that Gartner’s 2026 Magic Quadrant created a dedicated category for Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) and positioned Descope as its only Visionary, following its 2025 Honorable Mention in access management research. The post argues that CIAM differs substantially from workforce identity management because it must support large, largely unknown customer populations while balancing low-friction registration and login, consent collection, fraud prevention, partner access, and regulatory requirements. Citing Gartner research and its own survey of 416 decision-makers, Descope says many organizations still use homegrown or workforce-oriented tools for CIAM despite limited satisfaction with that approach, and it identifies AI agents acting for customers as an emerging identity-management challenge. It describes its platform’s CIAM capabilities, including visual authentication workflows, passwordless and adaptive MFA, fraud signals and third-party integrations, B2B tenant management, family-account features, regional data residency, and an Agentic Identity Hub for governing AI agents and MCP servers through access controls, approvals, and audit trails.
