dbt State now available free forever
Blog post from dbt
dbt State, a service that uses information from previous dbt runs to reuse or skip unchanged models and tests, is now generally available with a free tier intended to simplify orchestration, speed development, and reduce warehouse-compute costs. Self-hosted users can receive 1,000 Daily Active Target Tables (DATT) per month indefinitely after a no-payment-method trial, while dbt Platform users will automatically receive 2,000 monthly DATT through March 2027; usage beyond these allowances can be purchased through pay-as-you-go billing or commitments. Compatible with self-hosted dbt 1.7+ and v2, dbt Platform, Airflow, Dagster, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, and Redshift, dbt State requires a dbt account because it stores and shares run state across environments. The announcement responds to community requests for a lower-risk way to configure and test the service in development, staging, and production, and cites customer reports of simpler deployments, faster development workflows, increased capacity, and lower run-time and compute costs.
