CoScreen, a collaboration tool by Datadog, introduces a shared terminal feature that enables real-time engineering teamwork through a single tool. This new beta feature allows up to 10 team members to pair program and mob program in their terminals with near-zero latency, sharing control and editing collaboratively in real time. The collaborative terminal features speed, enhanced collaboration, annotations, security, and other benefits such as sharing the entire display or individual windows, allowing multiple users to share screens simultaneously, and retaining control of any apps without letting others steal the window and mouse focus. CoScreen's collaborative terminal works by using a PTY module, CoScreen, and an underlying open-source video conferencing platform Jitsi, with data channels securely transmitting encrypted PTY data alongside remote control data, annotations, and other metadata. The feature is available as a beta release for free, with users able to sign up for a 14-day trial to try it out.
