Recording improvements: next-gen raw tracks and new compositor with layout animations
Blog post from Daily
Daily has announced significant upgrades to its video recording capabilities, affecting both raw-tracks and single-file cloud recordings, set to become default features by May 26, 2026. The raw-tracks mode now includes an event-driven compositing feature, capturing not just media files but also event data like user actions and transcripts, stored as JSON files alongside media in S3 buckets. This enhancement allows for richer post-processing, enabling the creation of video composites that reflect the actual meeting dynamics. Additionally, a "transcoded gapless" audio setting has been introduced to ensure audio files are uniform and free of data gaps, facilitating easier post-processing. The cloud recording mode has been improved with the adoption of the VCSRender compositor, which supports full frame rate layout animations for smoother transitions and better performance, even in large meetings. Users can enable these features immediately with specific properties and have the option to remain on legacy systems if preferred.
