Summary

Cypress Test Replay has updated its functionality to capture canvas elements by default, addressing a previous limitation where placeholders appeared instead of rendered canvases during test replays. Initially, canvas element capture was an opt-in feature due to concerns about potential test performance issues with large or numerous canvas elements. However, after observing minimal performance problems, the feature is now enabled for all projects in Cypress Cloud, allowing users to see canvas elements such as charts and interactive graphics as they originally appeared. While this change improves the debugging process for most users, it does not yet address canvas elements rendered inside Shadow DOM or versions of Cypress before 15.5.0. For projects concerned about performance, a project-level toggle has been introduced to disable canvas capture if needed.
