Coval Launches the First Self-Improving Agents, Powered by Phonely's New Alma Model
Blog post from Coval
Coval and Phonely have announced a collaboration intended to create self-improving voice AI agents by linking Coval’s production conversation evaluation platform with Phonely’s voice-focused language model, Alma. The system evaluates real customer calls, identifies recurring performance issues, and uses those findings to inform ongoing model updates, shifting agent development from a manual cycle of deployment and fixes toward automated improvement, validation, and redeployment. Phonely says Alma was trained on more than 10 million phone conversations and is faster and less expensive than certain general-purpose OpenAI models, while Coval positions its platform as a way to monitor voice-agent quality at production scale. The companies say customer data will be used only to improve each customer’s own model, not those of other clients. The announcement reflects growing enterprise investment in voice AI for customer service, where companies increasingly seek systems that can adapt to business-specific conversational patterns rather than relying solely on static, general-purpose foundation models.
