Summary

Couchbase’s October 2026 AI Data Plane release introduces Managed Agent Memory, Managed MCP Server, and expanded Capella Model Service capabilities to reduce the operational burden of deploying AI agents. The platform is positioned as a governed data and memory layer that lets agents access live operational data through a single engine and data copy, while providing persistent memory, controlled tool access, and context across cloud and edge environments. Managed Agent Memory consolidates durable facts, expiring context, and semantic recall into a JSON-based service with a single API, managed provisioning, standard OAuth2 and OIDC controls, and context filtering intended to reduce token usage. Managed MCP Server provides a single-tenant, centrally governed connection between agents and Couchbase data, includes more than 20 tools for schema, querying, and cluster health, and defaults to read-only access. Capella Model Service also adds serverless Amazon Bedrock models, including Claude, Llama 4, Nova, Mistral, and Cohere, with per-token pricing and semantic or conversational caching designed to reduce repeated model calls.
