Joyent has introduced Triton, a new Docker container hosting service offering enhanced performance by eliminating hardware-level virtualization and providing simplified networking with unique IP addresses for each container. The platform abstracts hosts, allowing users to deploy containers without concern for their specific host locations. Users can set up Triton by signing up for a Joyent account, adding an SSH key, and upgrading their Docker client to version 1.4.1 or later. The process involves setting up the Joyent + Docker environment by downloading the sdc-docker repository, configuring Docker client settings, and deploying containers like a basic "hello world" or a Couchbase Server cluster. Triton provides both public and private IP addresses for containers, and users can manage their Couchbase Server cluster through a command-line interface. Optional tools like Joyent Smart Data Center (SDC) can be installed for greater visibility into the container ecosystem, allowing users to list and manage their container instances efficiently.
