Couchbase Server 7.1.2 introduces enhanced geospatial indexing and querying capabilities through its Search service, expanding from simple single-dimensional geopoints to supporting complex higher-dimensional spatial structures using GeoJSON formats. This upgrade allows for the approximation of various real-life shapes such as postal regions, vehicle routes, and water body boundaries, facilitating the representation and querying of spatial data through new geoshape functionality. The service now supports diverse GeoJSON shapes, including Points, LineStrings, Polygons, MultiPoints, MultiLineStrings, MultiPolygons, GeometryCollections, Circles, and Envelopes, enabling users to execute queries based on spatial relationships like intersects, contains, and within. The new capabilities account for the Earth's curvature through spherical geometry, providing a more accurate depiction of geographical boundaries, with supplementary resources available for validating and testing these geospatial features.
