Comparing Coralogix with open source observability backends
Blog post from Coralogix
Coralogix reports a benchmark comparing its observability platform with ClickHouse, OpenSearch paired with Prometheus, and a Loki, Tempo, and Prometheus stack using identical OpenTelemetry data from the Astronomy Shop Demo. Agents using the GLM 5.3 model answered 12 questions through each backend’s command-line tools, with reviewers requiring correct answers and measuring tokens, time, turns, and tool calls, including repeated attempts. While open-source backends performed competitively on precise counting tasks, Coralogix recorded lower average token use, fewer interactions, and seven of 12 benchmark wins overall, particularly on ambiguous investigations requiring agents to discover relevant services, fields, and signals. The report attributes part of the difference to unified access to logs, metrics, and traces in Coralogix and ClickHouse, while Loki’s separated engines and OpenSearch’s reliance on Prometheus for metrics required multiple tools and additional correlation. Coralogix notes that the comparison used default, untuned deployments and plans to investigate whether tuning, larger environments, and alternative AI models change the results, while acknowledging the importance of open-source observability communities.
