AI-powered webhook receivers can take unpredictable amounts of time to process events because they may retrieve information, call models and tools, validate results, or coordinate multiple systems before acting. Traditional outbound webhook systems often interpret delayed responses as failures, triggering retries while the original request is still processing and creating duplicate actions, misleading delivery logs, and support issues. Senders therefore need to adapt their infrastructure with more nuanced timeout handling, intelligent retry backoff, stable event identifiers or idempotency keys, and detailed observability that distinguishes unavailable endpoints from slow but active ones.
