Scrapingbench: Context.dev finished the most scrape tasks of 10 web scraping APIs
Blog post from Context.dev
Scrapingbench, an independently run and openly published benchmark created by Leo (@leodev), evaluated ten web scraping and data APIs by giving the same Claude Haiku 5.5 agent 40 tightly constrained scrape tasks, with two calls, 60 seconds, and a $0.10 budget per task; answers were checked programmatically against official-source keys rather than by a model. In the October 19, 2026 results, Context.dev completed 38 of 40 tasks (95%), ahead of Spider’s 37 and Scrapfly’s 36, although the benchmark characterized the differences among the top four providers as potentially attributable to chance given the sample size, while reporting clearer gaps to six others. Context.dev’s reported cost was 1.36 cents per completed task and its median completion time was 4.6 seconds, while its responses were the largest on average, potentially giving the agent more page content to inspect. The benchmark’s core tasks primarily involved extracting documentation headings, package versions, URLs, and JavaScript-rendered fields from 37 sites, meaning its results chiefly measure page rendering, structural preservation, and content completeness rather than general scraping performance across all website types. It also included search, map, and crawl tracks for a smaller set of providers, and disclosed limitations including free-plan testing, a single server and model, default provider settings, incomplete provider coverage, and the absence of several notable services.
