In 2026, despite widespread adoption of AI among B2B SaaS content teams, content production and outsourcing practices have not significantly changed, according to research by Benchmarker in partnership with Contentful. The study, which surveyed 321 marketing leaders, found that AI has not drastically increased content output, with most teams maintaining similar production levels as before, constrained by factors like idea generation and quality control. Outsourcing remains common, especially among larger companies, with nearly half of content being produced externally, as AI still can't fully replace human-led tasks such as editing and distribution. While AI is heavily used in content ideation and writing, its integration into broader tech stacks is underutilized, with high-performing teams distinguished by their consistent activation of AI features across tools. The research also highlights a shift in content strategy, with blog posts losing their impact as standalone pieces, and a more balanced distribution of content efforts across different customer journey stages. Despite technological advancements, successful content teams focus on quality, strategic distribution, and comprehensive performance measurement, treating content as a crucial component of their operating system rather than isolated initiatives.
