Compass is coming to the cloud
Blog post from Cohere
Cohere’s Compass is an enterprise retrieval platform designed for generative AI, RAG systems, and agents, addressing the need to reduce token costs, support multi-step agent queries, and simplify fragmented search infrastructure. It combines connectors, document parsing, dense and sparse embeddings, indexing, hybrid retrieval, reranking, and governance in a configurable service, with document-level permissions and retention policies enforced during retrieval. Compass supports conventional and agentic applications through APIs for custom integrations and a Model Context Protocol server that exposes retrieval tools to compatible agents. Cohere reports that its hybrid retrieval and reranking approach improved nDCG@10 accuracy by 14 to 16 points over Azure Search on its internal High Finance benchmark, and it is offering private beta access to teams building retrieval-intensive applications.
